SOCOTEC USA is proud to announce that the Optima Onyx Tower, which achieved LEED Platinum Certification in October of 2024, has been recognized with the USGBC Florida 2024 Building Design + Construction Award. This honor celebrates the tower’s exceptional commitment to sustainability, innovation, and design excellence.

Known as the Onyx Tower, this remarkable project is part of the Aventura Optima development, located along S. Federal Highway in Hallandale Beach, Florida. This striking project embodies both architectural beauty and environmental responsibility. The development spans a remarkable 709,503 square feet, encompassing a 390,514-square-foot parking garage, a 23,757-square-foot two-story financial building, and a 295,232-square-foot twenty-story office tower. The tower, which sits atop the garage, boasts a gross floor area of 282,000 square feet. The space primarily functions as offices, with additional retail-shell spaces on the lower levels. Among its unique offerings are 272,302 square feet of office space, 12,508 square feet for a bank, 1,767 square feet for a café, and 47,650 square feet of beautifully designed garden and reflecting pool decks located on the fifth and ninth floors. OPTIMA ONYX TOWER

Redefining Sustainability & Design

Sustainability is at the heart of the Onyx Tower’s design. Achieving 30% energy savings, the building incorporates a rooftop solar panel array, reducing its environmental footprint while enhancing efficiency. During construction, the project generated less than 15 pounds of waste per square foot, a notable achievement that exemplifies sustainable building practices. Additionally, the tower earned a Safety First Pilot credit, ensuring green cleaning and disinfecting protocols, particularly in response to pathogens such as COVID.

SOCOTEC USA’s Energy & Sustainability team in West Palm Beach, Florida, played a critical role in the project’s success by providing sustainable consulting services. This achievement reflects the expertise and hard work of SOCOTEC’s team and its partners. Special recognition goes to team members Juliette Desfeux (LEED), Ernesto Collazo (CxP), Santiago Sanchez, and Steve Samenski (EM), whose contributions were integral to the project’s success.
